THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION CLUB

                             THE

BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION CLUB

MONDAY AUGUST 24TH.

This club night was to be a special night, a night with a difference. Barry decided that the time was ripe for the club accordion band to make its debut before a live audience and also any member brave enough to play for the paying audience was invited to do so.

A guest artist was not on the agenda but surprise surprise, we did have a guest artist. We were very pleased with the turnout but as usual the time of the year, holiday time, left a few vacant seats.

The band eventually began to take their places on stage, a few of them looking rather nervous but they soon began to smile as they worked their way through the programme. After the debut members began their solo spot. John Shelley began, next was Janis, Yvonne and Sonia, Trevor, Jessica and Kaye, Harry and then John Mason. Lots of applause and everyone very impressed with both the band and the individual performances. Now we were in for a pleasant surprise when Malchy Cairns popped up with his accordion and played a lovely version of the Cuckoo Waltz followed by one of his Irish songs. To add to the fun, Austin Cairns, armed with his penny ‘whistle’,. then played a duet with Malachy . Now it was time for the interval, a cup of tea, a snack and a natter. The bits and pieces on the table top sale attracted some interest and added a few pounds more to the charity fund. The club drummer, Roy Nock was away on holiday and we were rather disappointed because not only was Roy an important part of the club band, but he and Barry were to round the evening off in their usual style of hand clapping , foot stamping fun. Everyone agreed that the evening’s entertainment was very enjoyable.

Monday September 28th. will be a special treat for everyone when our guest artists will be Denise Leigh and Stefan Andrusyschyn. Denise is a famous opera singer and Andrew a champion accordionist.

Monday Oct. 26th.   SHEILA FAWKES QUINTET return with their brand of popular jazz and vocals.

Plans for the remaining club nights are, A FISH and CHIPS SUPPER in November, XMAS PARTY with STEVE ROXTON and our January BIRTHDAY Celebrations with the fabulous JEAN MARTIN.

REMINDER; AGM WILL BE ON MONDAY NOV. 2ND. WE HOPE TO HAVE THE FULL SUPPORT OF ALL MEMBERS. THE MEETING TAKES ABOUT 30 MINUTES SO THAT THE SOCIAL GATHERING IS NOT INCONVENIENCED
