THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION CLUB

MONDAY MARCH 28TH.

The growing enthusiasm from members and visitors alike continued as the hall rapidly began to fill quite early and the donated raffle prizes began to mount up in number on the display table. There was a problem however as our guest artist for the evening, Sammy Catling, had called earlier in the day to say that she was unwell and unable to make the journey to the club for the evening booking. Barry was very understanding and wished Sammy well for a speedy recovery. The issue of an evening of music was easily solved when Roy Nock, our resident drummer, arrived with his new drum kit and teamed up with Barry for an all action, non stop session. Barry made an apology to the audience regarding the change in the programme and the fun began. Roy is very familiar with Barry’s style of playing as they often have a session together on the Social nights, much to everyone’s delight and tonight was not an exception. We were treated to a world tour of music, hand clapping, singing and even a belly dance, by Kay, when Barry played Casablanca. After the interval we had a little auction for a lovely Easter Cake and it raised £12 towards charity. Once again the very generous Ursula had baked and donated the cake. As we had had such a splendid and successful evening members were in a generous mood and supported a collection for The Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The club also responded to a request for a donation to the West Midlands Air Ambulance with a cheque for £100. Barry and Roy rounded the evening off with a thunderous performance of The Dambusters. Altogether a very good performance and a vote of thanks was made to Barry and Roy for stepping in to save the show at such short notice.

At great risk of repeating myself once again I have to say that the Social night happens on the first Monday of the month and it’s popularity is increasing each meeting. The club band is making steady progress and will be giving a public performance later this year. New band members are always welcome and Barry would like to hear from anyone interested.
