 THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION CLUB

MONDAY MAY 25TH.

Sadly, one of our staunch supporters, Trevor Grosnevor MBE, has passed away on May 15th. Trevor was a dedicated charity worker and together with Stella, his wife enjoyed accordion music.

Bank Holiday Monday was not the ideal time to compete with all the holiday distractions but as with show business traditions, the show must go on.

ROBERT BURTON was our guest artist for the night. He came with a reputation of being a very experienced accordionist and entertainer and this was certainly verified. His accordion is a Paulo Soprani , both Midi and acoustic. When Robert handed out his song sheets for the Singalong programme we realised that he meant business.  Music from the 50’s and 60’s  is his speciality but I had a chat with him earlier telling him that ‘our lot’ loved a sing along and that is exactly what we enjoyed. The majority of the audience did not require the song sheet as they knew all the words, in other words, the list of songs were all our old favourites and I feel that Robert was very pleased with 99% of people joining in with gusto.  As well as the Sing-along Programme Robert showed that he could sing and promptly sang a couple of songs in Italian and German, (and Scottish). As a solo accordionist he certainly impressed us when he played ‘Cubanola’. So ended a very enjoyable evening and we were very pleased to thank Robert for such an entertaining show.

We used this meeting to give some members an opportunity get on stage and play to a paying audience and hence gain some experience and confidence. Practice is essential prior to a concert as this opportunity is open to any member who would to try. We find that on the social nights members can play very well but are afraid to take the chance to go on stage so if anyone is interested please contact Barry. The Social nights are an ideal time to play, practice, seek advice, try other accordions and even go on stage for an experience. Many non players attend purely for a ‘social’ evening. Please note that Band Practice is held on the 3rd. Mon. of each month and anyone who would like to join in should contact Barry.
