THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION CLUB

SEPTEMBER   30TH

This was to be the night of the Proms. The night that opera and classical music came to our club. This was the night that Denise Leigh and Stefan Andrusyschyn visited the club to entertain us. Denise is a famous opera singer and Stefan a brilliant accordionist, once being a UK champion accordionist. As this wonderful couple had visited us on a previous occasion we knew what to expect. The holiday season continued to attract some of our members and regular visitors leaving the expectant audience a little low in numbers. What we found enjoyable with these artists was the chat, humour and discussions regarding the music and songs about to be performed. Stefan tuned in with some rather classical pieces but then produced a superb version of ‘The Carnival of Venice’. Denise then shows what a first class opera singer can. She has an amazing voice and most certainly a microphone was not needed. Her rendering of ‘Ave Maria’ was rewarded with a tumult of applause which lasted several minutes. Stefan played everyone’s favourite, non other than ‘Czardas’, which was rewarded with a standing ovation.

The social nights, which are held on the first Monday each month, continue to be a healthy attraction for players and visitors alike. Several players have improved since these social evenings were introduced as everyone has the opportunity to play. Some players claim that their confidence to play to a group, has improved.

Band rehearsal nights are held on the 3rd. Monday of the month. The band is making good progress as members are now settling down. New members are welcome and for more information, times and venue etc. please contact Barry Smith on 0121 559 4620.

October 26th. The SHEILA FAWKES QUINTET return for their annual visit as they are very popular with our members.

November 23rd. HARRY HUSSEY will be entertaining whilst we enjoy a FISH and CHIPS SUPPER.
