BON ACCORD AT THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION CLUB

BON ACCORD

AT THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION CLUB

MONDAY APRIL 25TH

Richard Adey had been invited to return to our club for an evening concert. He arrived with the musicians and very quickly set up the equipment for the show. Bon Accord is the chosen title of this very talented group and we looked forward to another first class performance. We were a little disappointed to find that Richard had decided not to play solo but to play in the group all night. The promise of bad weather for that evening posed a threat to some of our visitors and holidays and illness rather removed the expected full house. The choice of music was rather interesting with a selection of well known tunes and jazz. Accordion, clarinet, double bass and bass guitar were well chosen. A few Gypsy tunes and a grand finale with a fabulous rendering of ‘Dark Eyes’ rounded the evening off. Richard is a brilliant accordionist and together the quartet are a true professional group of musicians but we feel that perhaps, as not all of us are lovers of jazz, that their programme could have more accordion music and less jazz. We know that Richard will remedy this matter when we invite him to return again.

We are contemplating an advertising campaign in order to publicise the club as well as the accordion as we do need much more support and new members. A number of members have drifted away, mainly due to illness and old age. Ideas are needed to promote the club to show just how entertaining the accordion can be. Thanks to our very loyal members we are still in a strong position but we must maintain this if we continue to book quality artists. The first promo advert will be out shortly and the response will give us an idea what we can expect.

The social nights will be a very useful link as regulars can bring friends along to sample the accordion and atmosphere of the club. Members of the band will know by now that a public performance is planned for the August club night so there is only a couple of months left to practice so get down to it and do the club proud on the big night.

Monday May 23rd. JOVAN RYNAK …Singer and Accordionist returns. Jovan is a very good musician and a very pleasant and relaxing singer.

Monday June 27th. ALAN STOTT…Comedian and Accordionist, Alan was here some time ago and provided a very amusing show.
