MONDAY AUGUST 22ND THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION BAND

MONDAY AUGUST 22ND.

THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION BAND

This was the night that we were all waiting for, not a world champion accordionist guest artist or musician, but the clubs’ very own accordion band. Our Musical Director, teacher and club chairman had finally succeeded in producing a respectable group of accordionists, called an accordion band. THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION BAND is here to stay. August 22nd. was chosen as the big night to perform in public, in style. The band did make its’ public debut last year but this year it was to be done with a flourish with members looking business-like in uniform and attractive club banners.  Roy Nock is the club drummer and he did a very professional job keeping the rhythm going. Ruth, armed with her guitar added to the variety content of the band.

The programme for the show was that the band would play a selection of numbers and then a few of the more confident and brave individuals would do a solo spot.

We were very pleased with the turnout of members and visitors and this was very encouraging for the band members as some of them were a little nervous.  The nervous ones were of course the volunteers who were going to go solo. Barry settled them down and the performance began. Barry had chosen a selection of tunes which the band played very well and the audience really showed their appreciation. Amongst the chosen tunes were Alpine Air, My heart cries for you, A Bunch of Thyme and Largo.   We received an enormous selection of prizes for the interval Raffle and the Tote winner, Jessica, kindly donated her winnings to club funds. The first soloist was Janis who played Paris Skies and a request number, Over the Rainbow. Trevor then played a lovely version of Vienna, City of my Dreams.  John had hand clapping and feet stamping and applause to Alebrider and then the glamourous trio of Jessica, Kay and Ruth played Vaya Con Dios. An unexpected performance by Jim and Annette Hines was very well received as Annette has just taken up the accordion again after many years. Barry and Roy rounded the evening off with a very lively selection of popular music and sing-alongs.

MONDAY SEPT. 26TH.  The fabulous PEARL ADRIANO returns to our club.
