THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION CLUB

March 23rd. BON ACCORD at ROWLEY REGIS

Bon Accord, a quartet consisting of Richard Adey- Accordion, Harry Christian– Clarinet, Mike Bethel-Guitar and Simon Smith-Bass,  made up this superb band of musicians. Richard is known to several of our members from the Club Accord days but the other musicians were new faces to us. Their repertoire consists of a range of Gypsy, Latin and Jazz inspired music.  The reputation of Bon Accord must be spreading far and wide and as a result we had an excellent turnout of members and visitors with many of them arriving very early on the night. A search on the internet, beside samples of the band playing revealed a whole list of their music which included  well known tunes  such as ‘All of Me’, ‘Honeysuckle Rose’ and ‘La Vien En Rose’.

Richard began playing a few numbers off stage before returning to the band and introducing them. The band are all very experienced musicians and this soon was very apparent in their performance. There were a few numbers that we were only vaguely familiar with, Fou Rire, Libertango,  Bossa Dorado and Menilmontant were amongst them. The highlight of the evening for me was the rendering of Caravan and a grand finale of Dark Eyes which received a standing ovation.  A thoroughly entertaining concert enjoyed by everyone. Well done Richard and we shall see you and Bon Accord again next year.

We are very pleased with the progress the club is continuing to make. An influx of new members together with support for the Social Evening has apparently  improved the general atmosphere of the Club and Social nights. Sadly some of our senior members do not appear so often. Barry, our chairman continues to search for fresh artists in order to maintain the flow of variety in entertainment.
